From the Eye of the Storm: Air Evac Lifeteam 179 Rebuilds with Resilience

In early May, a string of devastating tornadoes swept across London, KY. Homes were flattened, vehicles were mangled and debris scattered across the county. London County’s Air Evac Lifeteam, Air Evac 179, was heavily impacted and is continuing to rebuild following the devastating spring storms. The twister damaged the hangar and aircraft at our base, causing us to temporarily pause operations. Despite these challenges, our GMR family stepped in to ensure seamless patient care across the region.

Crews from Air Evac Lifeteam 179, along with other GMR team members, have been working together to clear debris and stabilize the base. Many have also stepped in to fill shifts at neighboring bases to maintain critical coverage for London and the surrounding communities. Their response has been nothing short of inspiring.

Alongside clearing the damage and restoring essential equipment, our Air Evac Lifeteam has also partnered with volunteer organizations to support local first responders and healthcare workers. From staffing “The Band Aid Station” at the Command Center/Airport to coordinating meals and essential supplies for those in need, their dedication reflects the best of our mission: helping people in their most vulnerable moments.

We will share an update as soon as we are officially back in service. Until then, rest assured that our neighboring Air Evac Lifeteam bases continue to provide uninterrupted critical care to residents of London, KY and the surrounding communities

If an AirMedCare Network Provider does not transport you, you will be responsible for payment. Our membership program only covers transports provided by our affiliates.

There is no limit to the number of transports a member may take in a year. Each transport is handled the same way and must be an emergent or time-sensitive transport as determined by a physician (or other appropriate provider) or first responder unaffiliated with AMCN.

With an AirMedCare Network membership, any person or persons who reside under one (residential) roof are covered. In the event we have a member who lives in a duplex or apartment complex, we designate the primary member’s residence/address— that is considered the “one roof”. Undergraduate college students can be covered under their parent’s membership as well as anyone previously residing in the household who is then moved to a permanent care facility.
